Cuando los ingenieros de Silverstone empezaron a trabajar en el tercer modelo de la serie Fortress, ya haban tenido en cuenta el futuro de los chasis para ordenador y modos de mejorarlos para integrarlos en el trabajo el hogar. Es por esto que el objetivo del diseo de la Fortress FT03 fue proporcionar al usuario tanto espacio como fuera posible reduciendo la profundidad del chasis a un nivel sin precedentes. Los ingenieros tambin queran llevar a cabo el cambio de diseo sin renunciar a que el chasis pudiera acomodar los mejores componentes del mercado. Los diseos tradicionales de chasis para ordenador ocupan espacio en la mesa no slo por su superficie fsica, sino que tambin necesitan espacio para conectar cables. Con la FT03 no existen esas restricciones ya que sus bellas chapas exteriores de 2,5mm de espesor de aluminio pulido y anodizado no tienen conectores para cables en sus cuatro lados, lo cual libera una enorme cantidad de espacio en el escritorio para sus usuarios.El interior del chasis utiliza la distribucin nica de Silverstone para refrigeracin en columna, por lo que la placa base Micro-ATX se monta con una rotacin de 90 grados para as aprovechar la tendencia natural del aire caliente de subir. Este diseo tambin permite a la FT03 aceptar tarjetas grficas con una longitud de hasta 13,7 pulgadas sin que el chasis deba tener esa profundidad.
